چکیده

A 35-year old woman with a Bentall procedure 17 years previously, was addressed for repeated bleeding from a sternal sinus. Fistulography showed contrast material around the crimped prosthesis (Fig. 1). Homograft replacement of her composite prosthesis was performed. The postoperative course was uneventful. She is well and without recurrence 24 months later. European Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery 24 (2003) 1036 www.elsevier.com/locate/ejcts

Ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm developed forty years after aortic valve replacement by Starr-Edwards mechanical valve

Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is a rare anomaly, most often caused by a congenital absence of muscular and elastic tissue in the aortic wall of the sinus of Valsalva. It was first described in 1938. The incidence is higher in eastern than western populations. Various surgical repair techniques have been reported with good results. In this case, a 61 years old man, with history of aortic valve repl...

A Rare Case of Right-Sided Heart Failure after Bentall Procedure

Pseudoaneurysms of the ascending aorta, which are rare and life-threatening complications in cardiovascular surgeries, can be caused by the Bentall procedure. We describe a 44-year-old woman, who had a medical history of acute aortic dissection (Type A) and the Bentall procedure and was admitted because of exertional dyspnea, edema of the lower extremities, ascites, and holosystolic murmur in t...

The left internal thoracic artery to bypass an abnormal circumflex artery arising from the right coronary sinus in a patient scheduled for root aneurysm.

Although classic valve-sparing root repair yields excellent results (survival at 10 years of 93.5%, freedom from structural valve deterioration at 10 years of 96.1% [1]), I agree with Siepe and colleagues [2] that extensive skeletonization of the aortic root might jeopardize an abnormal circumflex artery arising from the right coronary sinus and crossing the dorsal aspect of the annulus. I also...

Alternatives in the treatment of prosthetic infection after the Bentall-de Bono operation.

Method In case 1, three months after hospital discharge, a small fistula in the upper sternal scar was observed. When it was explored surgically, the fistula affected the superiorposterior part of the sternum and the pericardium was covering the prosthesis except in a small area over the left distal anastomosis of the dacron graft, which had a drop of pus. Cases 2 and 3 presented clear mediasti...
